# Global Mobile App Downloads (IOS and Andriod)

#### Overview

Global Downloads tracks the estimated average number of devices with a given mobile application installed across both iOS and Android globally. This metric reflects total app penetration by measuring how many users currently have the app downloaded on their devices, rather than focusing solely on new installs.

#### Historical Length

Historical coverage varies by application depending on data availability, with multi-quarter to multi-year history available for supported apps.

#### Granularity

Data is available at a periodic aggregated level, showing average installed device counts over time across both operating systems.

#### Update Frequency

Updated regularly as new app installation and retention estimates become available.

#### Methodology

Global Downloads estimates the average number of active installed app instances across iOS and Android devices worldwide.

Rather than measuring download velocity or new installs in a given period, this metric captures the broader installed user base by estimating how many devices currently retain the application.

This provides a stronger indication of long-term user adoption, platform penetration, and retained app presence than raw download counts alone.

#### Use Cases

* Measuring total app adoption and installed user base growth over time
* Comparing app penetration between competitors in the same category
* Tracking user retention trends through installed base stability
* Identifying inflection points in app adoption ahead of earnings or company disclosures
* Evaluating ecosystem stickiness for subscription, marketplace, social, or utility apps
