Global Mobile App Install Penetration (IOS and Andriod)

Overview

Global Install Penetration measures the percentage of devices within a defined market that currently have a given mobile application installed. Rather than showing absolute install counts, this metric normalizes adoption relative to the total addressable device population, making cross-app and cross-market comparisons more meaningful.

Historical Length

Historical coverage varies by application and market depending on data availability, with multi-quarter to multi-year history available for supported apps.

Granularity

Data is available at a periodic aggregated level, showing install penetration trends over time by market.

Update Frequency

Updated regularly as new mobile device installation estimates become available.

Methodology

Global Install Penetration calculates the percentage of eligible devices in a specified market that currently have a given application installed across iOS and Android.

This metric measures relative market saturation rather than raw installed base, helping users understand how deeply an app has penetrated a population of devices within a geographic region or defined market.

Because the metric is normalized, it is especially useful when comparing adoption between apps with very different user bases or across markets with different device populations.

Use Cases

  • Comparing app adoption rates across competitors in the same category

  • Measuring market saturation within specific geographies

  • Tracking adoption growth independent of total device population size

  • Identifying early acceleration or slowdown in consumer penetration

  • Benchmarking app strength across regions or international markets
