Weighted New Company Adoption

Overview

Weighted New Company Adoption tracks how many new companies mention a specific keyword in job postings for the first time, while applying a proprietary weighting system based on company size. In TickerTrends, this dataset measures net-new adoption while giving more influence to adoption events from larger companies.

Unlike standard New Company Adoption, which gives each company equal weight, this metric reflects the relative size of adopting companies. This helps users distinguish between broad adoption among smaller firms and meaningful adoption by larger employers.

Historical Length

Coverage varies by dataset, but typically includes multiple years of historical job posting data, allowing users to analyze long-term weighted adoption trends across technologies and industries.

Granularity

Daily data is the default. For each day, TickerTrends identifies companies mentioning the keyword for the first time and applies a proprietary company-size weight to each new adopter.

This creates a time series that highlights when adoption is spreading, while also accounting for the relative scale of the companies involved.

Update Frequency

Data is typically updated within one week.

Methodology

We scan job postings across a large and diverse dataset and track keyword mentions at the company level. For each company, we identify the first time the entered keyword appears in one of its job postings.

Each company is counted once on the day of its first observed mention, but instead of contributing an equal value of one, it contributes a proprietary weight based on company size. Later job postings from the same company that mention the same keyword are excluded.

This approach preserves the net-new adoption logic of New Company Adoption while adjusting the series to reflect the scale of the companies entering the adoption curve.

Example Visualization

A time series showing weighted first-time company mentions for keywords such as “OpenAI,” “Claude,” “Snowflake,” “MongoDB,” or “ChatGPT.” Spikes indicate periods where adoption is expanding, especially among larger companies.

Use Cases

  • Measure new adoption while accounting for company size

  • Distinguish enterprise-led adoption from smaller-company experimentation

  • Compare whether a technology is spreading broadly or gaining traction with larger employers

  • Track when major companies begin introducing new tools into hiring requirements

  • Validate technology adoption trends with a size-adjusted labor market signal
