Mobile App Ranking (iOS and Android)

Overview App store rankings provide a complementary view to active usage by showing how apps are trending in visibility and downloads relative to peers. High rankings in categories like Finance, Shopping, or Health often serve as leading indicators of user acquisition and revenue growth. TickerTrends tracks daily iOS and Android app store rankings to help investors understand when a brand is breaking into the top of its category or slipping in relative popularity.

Historical Length Coverage typically extends at least 2 years for most major apps, with variation depending on app store availability. For many large-cap tickers, at least 3 years of history is available.

Granularity Rankings are collected daily across both iOS and Android. Users can view the data at daily resolution or aggregate to weekly/monthly to smooth out volatility.

Update Frequency App rankings update monthly, usually within the first week of the new month.

Methodology TickerTrends aggregates app store ranking data across Apple’s App Store and Google Play using Similarweb as the data source. For each company, we track:

  • Overall app ranking across all categories.

  • Category-specific ranking (e.g., Shopping, Health & Fitness, Finance).

  • Trending movements (sustained climbs vs. temporary spikes).

This dataset reflects app visibility and new user acquisition momentum, which is most powerful when paired with App Usage (WAUs) to capture both growth and engagement.
